Manchester United will reportedly face serious competition from Inter Milan for their Paul Pogba replacement target and Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serbian was seen as the ideal signing to make should the Frenchman depart to either Juventus or Real Madrid, although that transfer looks less likely to happen by the day.
The 24 year old was a target of United’s last summer as well but a move never transpired as his asking price was far too costly.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have also once again refrained from going all out to sign Milinkovic-Savic as Lazio’s evaluation of him is still too high.
It’s understood a deal will only happen if the Red Devils break the bank or the Serie A side reduce their asking price, although that is unlikely to happen due to Inter Milan’s interest.
According to Calcio Mercato, Corriere Dello Sport report that Inter are working to purchase Sergej in August, after they’ve offloaded enough stars to afford him despite spending plenty already.
Any deal for the powerful midfielder would mean a move for Romelu Lukaku would be near impossible for the cash-strapped Italian side.
The Belgian would cost them around £80m which would mean buying both him and Milinkovic-Savic is incredibly unlikely.
