Frank Lampard’s reign as Chelsea manager is well underway and he’s continued to stamp his authority on the squad by telling two first-team players they can leave the club this summer.
The Blues can’t strengthen their squad further but it seems like Lampard is still looking to trim his options ahead of the 2019-20 season.
According to the Daily Mail, midfield pair Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater have been told they’re surplus to requirements following Lampard’s assessment of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Japan.
Bakayoko arrived from AS Monaco in 2017 but has faced a turbulent decline at Stamford Bridge, spending last season on loan at AC Milan.
Drinkwater has shared the Frenchman’s struggles, playing just 23 times for Chelsea since joining from Leicester City in the same summer, with his last appearance coming in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City last August.
With just 17 overseas players allowed in Chelsea’s squad, Lampard has decided to sacrifice Bakayoko and Everton have been touted as suitors if Idrissa Gueye leaves for Paris Saint-Germain.
