New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will give both Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi the chance to resurrect their respective careers at Stamford Bridge during pre-season, according to The Guardian.
However the Blues don’t expect to see Alvaro Morata playing a part under the new regime, with the Spaniard determined to remain with Atletico Madrid.
Previous Chelsea maanger Maurizio Sarri had previously shut out Drinkwater and Batshuayi, loaning the latter to both Valencia and Crystal Palace during last season while the former failed to make a competitive appearance in the campaign, playing only one game in the FA Community Shield in August.
However, with Lampard aware of the difficult situation Chelsea are in due to their transfer ban, the former Derby boss is prepared to offer the duo a chance at redemption ahead of a campaign where expectations will be high at the Bridge.
Drinkwater is one of only five players in Chelsea’s squad who counts towards UEFA’s homegrown quota for the Champions League, while fellow homegrown player Ruben Loftus-Cheek is expected to miss most of the season through injury.
