18 and the world at your feet. Amazing, when you look at it in the context of your own life. What was I doing at 18? Certainly not about to make a life-changing decision like Callum Hudson-Odoi is.
Stay at the club where you could become a folk hero, and join the likes of Osgood, Wise, Hollins, Dixon, Nevin, Terry, Lampard and your namesake Alan Hudson? Or leave and make your way to Germany, where you will be amongst strangers, unable initially to speak the language and with no chance of ever being treated like a hometown hero?
Now, I appreciate the allure of Bayern, the prestige, the reputation and the challenges of the Bundesliga. But what about your own Blues, about to embark on a new journey of their own?
Frank Lampard, a fresh new coach, with a burgeoning reputation of giving youth a chance, and with the transfer ban in place, here is your opportunity Callum! Take it and become the hero we know you are capable of becoming. Follow Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount in committing long term to your club.
As for asking for the number 10 shirt, don’t do it. Don’t try to follow in the footsteps of Eden Hazard and the like. Keep the number 20; forge your own path. Blaze a new hero’s trail and join the folklore of Stamford Bridge and have your name sung from the rafters. This is our supporters’ dream for you, and hopefully soon, it will be your dream as well.
Sign your contract Callum – forget the Bayern, stay and help breathe new life in Lamps’ youth revolution. We want you, and we need you.
