Antonio Conte has confirmed that he views Romelu Lukaku as an important player for Inter Milan to sign in this window.
The Italian, who attempted to sign Lukaku back when he was Chelsea manager in 2017, has made securing the striker’s signature a priority in this window.
Manchester United are open to selling the player but only on the condition that they make a profit on the £75m shelled out for him two years ago.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Inter’s pre-season meeting with Man United on Saturday, Conte laid all his cards on the table, expressly stating he wanted Lukaku at the San Siro.
“You know I like this player,” he said. “In the past when I was Chelsea’s coach [from 2016 to 2018] I tried to bring him to Chelsea.
“As I said before, I like this player and consider him an important player for us to have a good improvement but at the same there is a transfer market.
“We know very well which is our situation at the moment and we will see what happens but for now Lukaku is a United player.”
Lukaku will not feature against Inter in Singapore due to fitness reasons, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Inter have reportedly made an offer of €70m whereby they pay only €10m this summer for a loan deal with an obligation to buy, with the next €60m being paid in two installments in 2020 and 2021.
