An agreement between Manchester United and Crystal Palace for the transfer of Aaron Wan-Bissaka was held up due to the latter demanding a 10% sell-on clause for the 21-year-old.
Man United announced on Saturday morning that they had made Wan-Bissaka their second signing of the summer, with the defender signing a five-year deal.
Palace, who initially rejected a £35m bid from United, agreed to an offer of £45m plus £5m in add-ons earlier this week.
According to David Ornstein, ‘the Ornacle’, who broke the news of an agreement being reached on Thursday, added on Friday night that the deal had been delayed because Palace wanted to ensure they received a 10% sell-on clause should United sell Wan-Bissaka for more than £50m in the future.

Palace have been adamant from the moment negotiations commenced that Wan-Bissaka would only be sold if United offered £50m – the figure they, rightly, take to be the 21-year-old’s worth. This sell-on clause just reaffirms that standpoint.
For United, shelling out £50m for one of the Premier League’s best right-backs, a position grossly ignored by the club for so long, constitutes a smart piece of business. Such money for a full-back – unimaginable not so long ago – is becoming the norm, and in United’s case felt necessary.
