Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has described how he intends to use the upcoming transfer windows should their recently handed transfer ban be uplifted or frozen.
This summer will be an important one for the top six clubs, as they look to decrease the points gap between the title chasers Manchester City and Liverpool.
Squads will be looking to be improved on in many areas, however, Sarri believes Chelsea only need to make a couple of signings. According to ESPN, he said:
I don’t believe when you buy 10 players, I think we have to buy only one or two players.
It’s very difficult to cover the gap at the moment. We need to work, probably we need to do something from the market. It’s not easy, because the level of the top two is very, very high.
I think we are a very good team, so we need only one, two players, no more.
Despite this, the Italian still has to think about their transfer ban after it was unsuccessfully appealed. Chelsea will be looking to try and appeal this further, however, Sarri has planned ahead.
If the club is banned from making any transfers, then we’d have to keep the squad we have and bring in some of the loan players back in, and that would give them an opportunity to play more.
But, for me, that’s not something that should be used to get an opportunity to play. It should be down to hard work and playing well.
The 60-year-old faces a real dilemma with what to do with his squad should he wish to challenge for the Premier League title next season, and with Champions League football secured for the Blues, his managerial skills will be put to the test.
Sarri has already started his preparations with some of the youth players returning from loan, with Reece James pictured alongside the first-team squad for training this week.
