Manchester United supporters “would rather play with ten men” than see Ashley Young start at full-back against Everton on Sunday.
The 33-year-old received widespread derision for his clunky performances in both legs against Barcelona, during which he continually gave the ball away and lacked urgency going forward.
He does not deserve a regular place in Man United’s starting XI. That much is clear. But it very much looks like he will play once again at Goodison Park.
With Luke Shaw suspended and Diogo Dalot playing on the other side, Solskjaer has a nasty choice: play Young again, or call upon the services of either Marcos Rojo or Matteo Darmian.

The response to this dilemma from the good people of Twitter was unequivocal: anything other than Young playing at full-back. Many feel like nothingness, pure absence, the void itself, would be better at full-back than Young. Others reckon a cone would suffice.
Drop him for Buttner

Rather play with 10 men than Ashley young playing like this.

I would rather play with 10 men than using Young anymore. The contract extension just shows, how important it is, that Woodward never ever makes a sporting decsion again.

Put a cone at left back

Lots to be said for keeping Dalot at right back and throwing Lee O'Connor in the deep end at left back. Youth all the way.

Drop him for ever

There is a growing feeling that this United team, following the emotional haranguing under Jose Mourinho and the physical exertion under Solskjaer, has run out of steam, with Paris serving as the dizzying crescendo of it all.
Players are not moving up the pitch with the same venom and efficiency as they did at, say, Cardiff or Wembley earlier in the season. They are feeling it in their legs. And none more so than Young.
Think about it. From September 2017, Young was Mourinho’s first choice left-back without fail. Then he went to the World Cup semi-final with England. He has since continually figured in the starting XI back at Old Trafford. And at 33, playing in the most physically demanding position on the pitch, there is nothing left in the tank.
It makes no sense to keep playing him under such circumstances.
