Player ratings: Solskjaer wins 8 away games in a row

David de Gea 6 – Helpless for Crystal Palace’s goal. Had nothing else of note to do. Could have been a bit better with his kicking.

Ashley Young 6 – A mixed performance. Extremely sloppy for Joel Ward’s goal but played with authority and scored a good goal towards the end.

Chris Smalling 6 – Jittery at times, seemingly fearful of the ball when it came to him in tight areas. Put up a good physical fight up against Michy Batshuayi.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Another classy, contained performance from the Swede, whose confidence is rising. He was even barking out instructions to midfielders at times.

Luke Shaw 7 – Best player on the pitch. Beat three players in the build-up to Romelu Lukaku’s first goal and brought superb energy and execution to the left-back role.

Scott McTominay 6 – Unremarkable but reliable at the base of midfield, maintaining a good position and keeping things simple. Jose Mourinho, watching from his armchair, would have been smiling (probably not, actually).

Fred 5 – The Brazilian, making his first Premier League start since December, looked short on confidence and mobility for the most part, often getting knocked off the ball. There were some positive glimpses, though. Needs more time on the pitch.

Paul Pogba 7 – Even when the Frenchman drifted in and out of the game, his influence was massive. Supplied a lovely assist for Man United’s third.

Diogo Dalot 6 – Seemed to fade away as the game went on but did a solid job for his team in an unfamiliar position. Showed good close technical control further up the pitch.

Alexis Sanchez 4 – So poor, again. Not strong enough, not fast enough, not smart enough when he had the ball. Looked all wrong.

Romelu Lukaku 7 – Started the game slowly but his goal in the first half, a curling effort with his right foot, was a reminder that the Belgian is a world-class goal-scorer. Netted his second soon after half-time.
