Chelsea’s first-team stars were put to shame once again this week, but this time by the club’s academy players.
The Daily Mail reports that those who were not involved against Manchester City on Sunday and substitutes from the game played in a training ground match against the club’s development squad.
According to the report, Maurizio Sarri was in attendance to watch the game, with the likes of Olivier Giroud and Willian featuring.
The game was played over four quarters, rather than two halves and played on a smaller pitch.

Unfortunately for the senior players, the game ended 3-3, with the academy players stealing a draw with the last kick of the game.
Given Sarri’s track record of not playing younger players this season, it does not make good reading for the Chelsea boss.
In fact, it may give him something to think about with his own team selection over the second half of the season.
