Maurizio Sarri’s job is still “on the line”, according to the Telegraph.
The Chelsea manager has experienced an up-and-down first season in England, starting well but seeing results nosedive.
The latest chapter in Sarri’s unpredictable spell at Stamford Bridge took place on Sunday, when the Italian was involved in a much-publicised spat with Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The goalkeeper refused to be substituted late on in the EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester City, claiming he was fit enough to continue, prior to the penalty shootout loss.
Although Kepa has publicly apologised for his role in the drama, Sarri is still hanging by a thread at Chelsea.
Defeat at home to Tottenham on Wednesday night, or “any more acts of mutiny, either from his players or the fans”, will likely see him relieved of his duties.
England assistant-manager Steve Holland is the preferred choice to take over in a caretaker role until the end of the season, should Sarri be sacked.
