Unai Emery has responded to claims that playmaker Mesut Ozil should’ve played in the 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov (via Arsenal.com).
It was a hugely disappointing result on Thursday evening as the Gunners lose 1-0 to BATE Borisov in the Europa League first leg tie.
The result was obviously far from ideal but it was the performance which left many Arsenal fans disheartened.
The Gunners were utterly lacking in creativity while playmaker Mesut Ozil was left at home in London, something which Unai Emery was quizzed about after the match.
“But every player, first is that every work to be ok to play. Today, the players that are here, we can win with these players and we deserved that,” he said after the match.
“Last week, for example, we won and we played with the same players. Today, for me, the performance is no different. We deserved to win but football is like that.”
It was such an infuriating performance. Arsenal were woeful at times against BATE Borisov with some lazy, pointless buildup play and one-dimensional final product. Mesut Ozil might be able to improve things but the players who played in the match on Thursday night should have won that much.
