Ashley Cole has leapt to the defence of Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, claiming he will go on to be a success at Stamford Bridge.
The Italian made a blistering start to life with the Blues but he has stuttered in recent months.
A Premier League title challenge is long gone, with a top-four finish now the primary aim.
A string of disappointing results, not least the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Bournemouth, has even led to claims that Sarri could be sacked.
Cole doesn’t believe that would be the right decision, however, telling Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football that the players must adapt to his playing style:
He’s come in, tried to put his philosophy into it and it’s down to the players as well. He’s a great manager.
If they win a few games, everything will be rosy again. He needs more time. He can bring that exciting, Italian football to England at Chelsea.
There is no doubt that Sarri’s time at Chelsea has been an up-and-down one to date, but there have been still been positives on show.
Patience was always going to be required, although that is not something always seen at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are still in four competitions this season – they face Manchester City in the EFL Cup final later this month – with a good chance of silverware for Sarri.
