Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri will be considered by Manchester United for the role of permanent manager next season, according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino remains the club’s main candidate for the role but Man United are committed to a thorough, extensive search over the next five months.
Allegri, who has won the Serie A title with Juventus for four years running, flirted with the idea of leaving Juventus in 2016 and 2017.
And according to Dawson, while Allegri has a contract with the Old Lady until 2020, he could be persuaded by an opportunity to manage in the Premier League.
The Italian is an admirable character with a strong managerial track record. He places emphasis on simplicity, playing to the strengths of his team, and does not fear tactical flexibility. At Juventus he will often switch between a back four and back three, depending on the opponent.
On a more personal level, there is an element of class about the Italian. He speaks incredibly well about the nature of winning games, of how to treat players, of what is demanded in each game. If you are, over this festive period, able to watch something on Netflix, take a look at First Team – Juventus, and in there you will see Allegri give some remarkable soliloquies which reflect both a deep knowledge of the game and indeed human nature itself.
He does not, it must be noted, bring the same defined aggressive attacking style as Pochettino, but his personality in big games is exactly in line with what one expects from a United manager.
