Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has issued a plea to owner Roman Abramovich over being given time to build

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has issued a plea to owner Roman Abramovich, claiming he needs to be given time to build the club up to the level of Manchester City.

Since his takeover of the Blues in 2003, Abramovich has developed a reputation for sacking managers earlier than probably necessary, often expecting immediate success from the men he appoints.

However, current Blues boss Sarri has called on Abramovich to be more patient with him, and the Italian used Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City tenure as evidence as to why patience would be beneficial.

In his first season as Manchester City boss, Guardiola didn’t win a trophy, and only managed to finish in third place in the Premier League, despite the heavy expectations many had place on his side.

And Sarri has used how City have evolved since them as an example as to why patience is important in building up a team to compete.

When quizzed about whether he would be given time to build ahead of Saturday’s game against Guardiola’s men, as quoted by MailOnline, Sarri said:

I don’t know. You have to ask the club. I don’t know.

What happens if Guardiola had no time in City? Maybe the best team in the world wasn’t City in the last year.

It’s not my problem. My problem is to improve my players, to solve the situation, to solve problems, to try to gain a lot of points. Then there is the club that will decide what is better for them.

The Premier League is a fantastic championship, but it’s very difficult. Difficult because every match is difficult. Every match, if you are able to win, is very expensive from the mental and physical point of view.

You have to play every three days. You have no time to work or improve the team, so it’s really a very difficult situation.
