Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta will sign a new-and-improved contract with the club, report Goal.
The deal is set to see his weekly salary rise from £120,000 to £150,000, “due to his status as a leader at Stamford Bridge”.
Azpilicueta is expected to extend his stay at Chelsea until 2022 at the earliest, in what the Blues hope is the first of a number of players putting pen to paper.
The Spain international has been one of Chelsea’s outstanding signings of the decade, having arrived for £7million from Marseille in 2012.
He has gone on to make 298 appearances in that time, cementing his reputation as one of the Premier League’s outstanding defenders.
The 29-year-old has won two Premier League titles, as well as a Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup crown apiece.
The report also states that Chelsea are trying to keep hold of Antonio Rudiger, following an impressive start to the season, while retaining the services of star man Eden Hazard and youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi is also of the utmost importance.
Maurizio Sarri’s side travel to Wolves on Wednesday night, before the crucial visit of Premier League leaders Manchester City on Saturday evening.
