Manchester United’s hierarchy are not planning to give Jose Mourinho financial backing in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The 55-year-old grew frustrated with the club’s board over the summer for their reluctance to countenance the signing of a central defender.
He remains keen to bolster his squad in January and, according to the Telegraph, would be prepared to dispense with Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly to make way for a new addition at the back.
But according to the Independent‘s Miguel Delaney, Man United are not making a concerted effort to line up any signings ahead of the January transfer window, during which the club signed Alexis Sanchez earlier this year.
Mourinho is said to be frustrated at the general lack of contact with Ed Woodward and his team over transfer targets. The club’s vice-chairman, although unwilling to sack Mourinho any time soon, has not ruled out the distinct possibility of the Portuguese manager leaving in the summer.
Such a state of affairs has created a reluctance among the board to grant any more of Mourinho’s transfer wishes. He has lost faith in Eric Bailly, his first signing as United boss, and remains unsure about Victor Lindelof, who arrived last year. Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Fred are all struggling as well.
You can understand why the board is essentially against adding to that list of misfits at Old Trafford.
