Jose Mourinho has slammed referee Mike Dean for the amount of added time in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
The Reds were leading 2-1 in the 95th-minute at Stamford Bridge, on route to their first win away at the West London club since October 2012, when Ross Barkley equalised for the hosts.
Mourinho was furious with the equaliser, and even more so with the celebration of the Chelsea coaching staff as things kicked off on the touchline. However, he also made a point of mentioning how much added time there was given from referee Mike Dean.
Chelsea were given six minutes added time in which to find an equaliser that allowed them to maintain an unbeaten Premier League record this season.
“Normally when I’m losing I don’t have 5 or 6 or 7 minutes,” Mourinho complained to Sky Sports.
Asked whether he could understand where the huge number of minutes added on came from, Mourinho said: “No, there were some changes that every team did.
“We wanted to do 2 at the same time but because Rashford was injured we couldn’t do that. But I never saw the majority of what the goalkeepers in the Premier League do [timewaste] from us.”
United did go some way towards timewasting, but were constantly looking for a third goal to wrap the game up. The referee was not to blame for United conceding late on, poor defending in the box and good reactions from Barkley were.
Mike Dean actually helped United get back into the game by refusing to stop play for Marcos Alonso, who was down injured in the box when Martial scored the equaliser for the Reds.
