Who was Jose Mourinho watching in Serbia’s 2-0 win vs Montenegro?

Jose Mourinho was in attendance as Serbia triumphed 2-0 against neighbouring country Montenegro on Thursday night and likely had his eye on a number of potential targets for Manchester United.

The Portuguese manager was pictured sitting alongside former-Real Madrid striker Predrag Mijatovic as Serbia secured a win away from home in the new UEFA Nations League.

Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic is the only Serbian or Montenegrin international currently at the club and was ruled out of the fixture with a back injury. Mourinho, therefore, must have been watching one or two targets as he looks to strengthen his squad in the January or summer transfer window.

After a woeful start to the season defensively, it’s very possible that Mourinho was focusing on Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

The Serie A centre-back turns this week and has impressed a number of scouts with his performances this season.

While some reports from Italy and England have suggested that Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was the subject of Mourinho’s trip, it seems unlikely. He’s only just penned a deal at the Italian side and was never set to play in the game.

Serbian reports, though, indicate Mourinho’s interest in Milenkovic. This is the second time in the last year that Mourinho has attended a Serbia fixture, having watched them in Vienna last autumn against Austria.

A number of Serbian players have been linked with United, and quite who Mourinho wanted to watch is not known. However, he clearly wants to pursue someone if he has turned up twice to watch them in a period where he could be back in Manchester having a more relaxed time than usual.
