Ex-Manchester United striker Michael Owen has claimed that midfielder Paul Pogba would be one of the better players in the world were he playing under Sir Alex Ferguson.
It was the Scottish manager who allowed Pogba to leave Man United on a free transfer to Juventus some years ago as he was unwilling to promise the Frenchman game-time in the first team.
Pogba then flourished at Juventus and earned himself an £89 million move back to United. Such a transfer would have been extraordinarily unlikely had Ferguson been yet to retire.
Yet even so, Owen explained that Ferguson’s man management and tactics would allow Pogba to become the best in his position in the world.
“Under Ferguson, he [Pogba] would be the best player in the world,” Owen explained, as per the Star.
“He got the best out of players and would see the unbelievable talent.”
Pogba’s talent is enormous. The technical ability that the 25-year-old has allows him to produce breathtaking moments of skill. His upper body strength is brilliant and he can push off, or hold off, the strongest and most determined of defenders. His shooting from long range is good, his heading too. And of course, his passing range and vision are unparalleled at United and he can dribble like a winger.
As all United fans know, though, Pogba hasn’t performed to his full potential at Old Trafford. Were he to do so, United would be a far better side.
And, yes, under Ferguson, it’s likely Pogba would be the real Pogba. But he also wouldn’t be at the club and not every player could be managed perfectly by Ferguson. Talented men like Diego Forlan and Juan Sebastian Verón were unable to find themselves fully at United.
