Manchester United will battle with Serie A side Inter Milan for the signing of football executive Beppe Marotta.
The highly-rated 61-year-old is currently Chief Executive Officer at Juventus, the Italian side who have won their domestic league in all of the last seven seasons.
Man United will face Juventus soon in the UEFA Champions League group stages and the clubs have previously been linked with the transfer of French midfielder Paul Pogba.
CalcioMercato reports that United will have competition on their hands when they try to bring Marotta to the club. The Juventus man has announced he’s leaving the Old Lady on October 25th.
While The Independent have suggested interest from United, Italian outlets regard Inter Milan as favourites. With Inter underway on an exciting project of renewal after a few years without any success, Marotta could be drawn to the San Siro.
However, United will likely offer a better deal financially for Marotta in terms of wages. The Reds are looking for their first-ever technical director. The new role will be crucial in working with Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward on transfer strategy and long-term football vision.
United need such thinking having appointed three managers since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, all of whom have different styles and have demanded to renew the squad in their way. The players that the club have signed haven’t been similar and the way that United have gone about it has been inconsistent and ineffective.
Woodward has targeted big names over good players, like Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria.
