With Antonio Conte still on the books at Chelsea, any appointment would have required the Italian’s new club to pay out the rest of the former Blues’ boss contract.
A payday of around £7 million will not be coming from Real Madrid, however.

The 49-year-old spent two years at the helm of Chelsea, leading them to a Premier League title and an FA Cup before he was sacked at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
