Chelsea set to miss out on big payday

With Antonio Conte still on the books at Chelsea, any appointment would have required the Italian’s new club to pay out the rest of the former Blues’ boss contract.

A payday of around £7 million will not be coming from Real Madrid, however.

Negotiations between Conte and the Spanish giants were in progress, but are have stalled according to The Times.

Real sacked ex-Spain boss Julen Lopetegui after a 5-1 defeat to Barcelona in Sunday’s El Clasico, Los Blancos have appointed the previous Real Madrid B manager Santiago Solari in an interim capacity.

A long-term candidate is yet to emerge from the shadows, but is seems as though that man will not be Antonio Conte.

The 49-year-old spent two years at the helm of Chelsea, leading them to a Premier League title and an FA Cup before he was sacked at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
