Pundit Steve Nicol believes Jose Mourinho can get the best out of Marcus Rashford by playing him as a striker but isn’t optimistic over that happening.
The Manchester United star has mostly been used as a left-winger under the leadership of the Portuguese manager.
Many would say Rashford has been impressive from that position but there was always the belief he would eventually lead the line for the club.
Mourinho has given the youngster the odd appearance here and there but it’s safe to say he hasn’t done enough to make it his own.
Nicol though is adamant Marcus must be given an opportunity to succeed in the position, particularly after his impressive display for England on Saturday night.
According to the Daily Star, Steve said: “Well, guess where Marcus Rashford played. Pretty much through the middle off Harry Kane, and guess what, he could have had a hat-trick.
“He scored a great goal, De Gea made an incredible save from his header. Then he should have, when he was clean through, at least had a brace. But, through the middle, he looked dangerous.
“Every time England went forward, he looked dangerous, he got in positions, he got in behind, he had pace. But guess what, I bet he doesn’t start there for Manchester United.”
Some fans have admitted Jose did give Rashford the opportunity to impress as a striker but believe the manager is still to blame for the poor performances.
The reason why they believe that is because they don’t think the former Chelsea boss uses him in the right way in order for him to be given a true chance to impress.
Unfortunately, Mourinho’s system calls for the need of a powerful striker and Marcus isn’t a target man so things don’t work in his favour.
