Man United keeping tabs on Spaniard to replace Woodward as transfers man

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Monchi ahead of a possible shake-up of the current structure at board level of the club.

The sporting director is currently at AS Roma, having arrived from La Liga side Sevilla just over two years ago.

Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia) report that Man United’s Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward is considering Mochi for what would be a new role at Old Trafford.

Currently, transfer dealings are handled by Woodward and manager Jose Mourinho, as well as other representatives at the club. There is no split between the commercial and football wings of the club, though, with Woodward heading up both.

Monchi would provide a barrier between commercial-focused Woodward and ambitious football man Mourinho, as well as any future manager.

However, Gazzetta state that a move for Monchi remains highly unlikely. The sporting director has a great relationship with President of the Giallorossi, James Pallotta. Roa would do everything possible to keep Monchi from leaving.
Manchester United and Barcelona are both reportedly eyeing sporting director Monchi, but a break with Roma doesn’t appear to be imminent.

Monchi is now well-known as one of Europe’s most impressive footballing people.

Barcelona are reportedly another club that is interested in the Spaniard.

A sporting director at United would be a fantastic addition. Ed Woodward is a commercial genius, and he is behind United’s revenues seeing a meteoric rise despite a lack of success on the pitch.

Whether it’s Monchi or someone else, a director would provide some much-needed long-term planning at the club. Transfers and managerial appointments have often contradicted each other since both Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill left the club.

United need to catch up with the times and follow in the footsteps of most European clubs as well as Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool.
