Midfield maestro's agent explains why he joined Man United, not City

Manchester United star Fred’s agent Gilberto Silva has revealed why his client signed for his current employers rather than Manchester City.

Back in the winter market, it became clear the Citizens were fighting hard for the Brazilian’s signature.

Thankfully for United, things didn’t quite work out for Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho ended up signing him this summer.

Fred hasn’t been at the club for long and clearly needs time to adjust but his talent has already shone through.

Silva has finally revealed just what happened and how come he ended up at Old Trafford instead of the Etihad.

According to Sport Witness, Gilberto said: “About Manchester City, he had the chance to leave in January but Shakhtar vetoed, there was no conversation.

“A good offer arrived, even bigger than the one from now. But Shakhtar understood that he was the most important player of the club.

“They didn’t want to negotiate, vetoed the exit. We did the planning which was to leave in the summer and he bought the idea. Everything we talked about, he understood the process, bought the idea.

“It was cool, because the conduct before Shakhtar within the negotiation was very correct. Professional conduct on our part and the part of him also, for not having lost his performance [after the failed move to Man City].

“It was a negotiation opportunity that was passing. We explained to him and we said the club would not let him go. We could fight, but I said we wanted to do it differently.”

Fred himself spoke about his eventually transfer to the Red Devils but it didn’t include quite that many details.

The midfielder had stated it was purely a passionate choice that made him choose the club and he wanted to work under Mourinho as well.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk man was supported by his family for the move to Manchester United and there’s hopes he can help lift the club up.

Unfortunately for Fred, Jose’s men are currently in a bit of a crisis but have plenty of time to make amends as only three matches have been played.
