Jose Mourinho has admitted that he believes Manchester United will only sign one more player at a maximum this summer, despite wanting two new faces before the summer transfer window slams shut.
The Man United manager has been largely negative over the course of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States, mainly due to the number of key players missing following their involvement in the World Cup.
There has also been a thread of injuries to the squad with Antonio Valencia, Marcos Rojo and Nemanja Matic all expected to miss the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
Speaking to the media after United’s 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in Michigan on Saturday night, Mourinho expressed his frustration at the club’s slow movement in the transfer window.
He said: “I would like two more players. I don’t think I will get two. I think I will get one. I gave a list of five. I wait to see if we get one.”
A centre-back is thought to be a priority, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City’s Harry Maguire at the top of the shortlist, as well as a right winger.
The right wing position looks to be the position where he isn’t expecting to strengthen in time; Mourinho’s main targets are Chelsea’s Willian and Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic but he may have to sanction the sale of Anthony Martial before even thinking about their arrivals.
There is a big two weeks coming up for United.
