Former Manchester United star Danny Welbeck has explained just why Marcus Rashford has been in good form with England.
The youngster is currently away on international duty with Gareth Southgate’s side as they gear up to play in the World Cup hosted by Russia.
Rashford’s inclusion caused a division by some Three Lions’ fans who thought he didn’t deserve to be there following his downturn in performances towards the end of the season.
Nonetheless the academy player will now get his chance to express himself on the biggest platform in football and Welbeck believes he’s got what it takes.
Marcus won’t be expected to lead his country to glory but is expected to provide a spark whenever necessary.
According to Manchester Evening News, Danny said: “I have enjoyed training with Marcus and from playing against him in the Premier League, I know the qualities he possesses and tonight he was brilliant.
“He has been free to play. The manager told him to go out there and be free – express yourself. The structure we have got as a team means we all know what we have got to do, so when you are in a certain position you know you have got lots of choices.
“He is – how old? – 20. He has got a lot of that youthful enthusiasm. I think tonight he was buzzing all around the pitch. But he is so mature around the place as well at times. He knows when to curb his enthusiasm.”
Rashford may not even be a starter for this young England side with the likes of Raheem Sterling currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
Southgate knows just what the striker can bring to his side though and is apparently keen to give his player all the freedom in the world in order to extract all the talent.
Just how far Marcus and England will go is yet to be seen but there are optimistic times ahead for the country.
