Marouane Fellaini has shunned Manchester United’s efforts to retain him and looks set to leave the club on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.
Fellaini has started just two Premier League games since the end of 2017 and is said to be holding out for extortionate wages at Man United.
The 30-year-old’s latest offer was £180,000-a-week, which he declined and has now reportedly come to a final decision that he will depart as a free agent on July 1.
The Manchester Evening News report that United and Jose Mourinho are very keen to keep Fellaini at Old Trafford, but the midfielder has made his mind up and that has been accepted.
European clubs Besiktas, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Premier League rivals Arsenal have been identified as suitors for Fellaini, while China always acts as another option.
Manager Mourinho publicly stated on a number of occasions in the latter stages of the 2017-18 season that he was desperate the keep the Belgium international in his squad, but will have to fill the hole.
He’s already signed £52m defensive midfielder Fred to replace the retired Michael Carrick and it wouldn’t be surprising if he aims to bring in a player to replace Fellaini before the transfer window slams shut, with SS Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and PSG’s Marco Verratti thought to be on his wish list.
