Gary Neville has found an inventive way of trolling Liverpool following their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Saturday night’s Champions League Final at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex.
Lorius Karius made the headlines for all the wrong reasons as he gifted Real two goals either side of a phenomenal Gareth Bale bicycle-kick as the Spanish side earned their historic third consecutive crowning.
A large number of English fans, even some of Manchester United, were behind Liverpool on the night but former United players such as Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and David Beckham publicly aired their desperation for Cristiano Ronaldo and co. to do the business in Kiev.
Neville was one of the more vocal ex-pros in the build-up to the game and wasted no time in sharing his relief on Twitter after the game with a rendition of the famous ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’ chant Liverpool fans have been singing all the way to the final.
His chant went like this: “They thought they’d conquered Europe, celebrating six, thank you Gareth Bale, made them look like d****, the twenty-sixth of May, always in our heart, United won the Treble, the scousers fell apart, Allez Allez Allez.”
United fans, in particular, have loved the post which now has over 100,000 interactions but many neutral and Liverpool supporters have accused Neville of losing his ‘journalistic credibility’ because of it.
It’s clearly a bit of end-of-season fun though, and you can look forward to seeing Neville’s respected insight throughout the 2018-19 season on Sky Sports once again.
