Ed Woodward gives his thoughts on Man United's season

Manchester United’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward has expressed his satisfaction with the club’s progress under Jose Mourinho this season at an investors call on Thursday.

Mourinho’s men finished the Premier League campaign in second place with 81 points and have a chance to claim their third piece of silverware in two years against Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The transfer window for Premier League teams is now officially open – earlier than normal due to the window closing on the eve of the 2018/19 campaign – and attention will soon move towards Woodward and his team as they look to make key additions to the squad over the summer.

Speaking at the investors call on Thursday morning, Woodward was notably positive about the progress seen in terms of points under the Portuguese this season.

Ed Woodward: “As another season nears its close, we have achieved our highest number of points and finish since 2012/13 and we look forward to another trip to Wembley. We anticipate another successful summer tour in the USA in preparation for the 2018/19 season.” #mufc [MEN]

It is understood that Woodward is fully behind any decisions regarding the squad Mourinho wants to make in the summer and will give him the proper financial backing to land the players he wants, alongside giving him the chance to clear out some of the deadwood in the squad.

The 55-year-old will enter his third season as United manager next term, an unprecedented stage of managerial evolution in the post-Fergie era, and Woodward – the business man that he is – clearly realises that the club will benefit more from continuity rather than perpetual flux. You can only hope that Mourinho makes the right calls in what promises to be a truly hectic summer transfer window.
