Arsenal have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals and Arsene Wenger is far from pleased(via Arsenal.com).
It was far from the ideal draw for Arsenal. When asked last night if he would like to avoid Atletico Madrid in today’s draw, Arsene Wenger replied: “Ideally, they are the strongest.
“they look strongest on paper from now on, but you must recognise as well the result that Salzburg has achieved.
“I am from France, Marseille are in there as well which is always a difficult place to go. Maybe it’s better I don’t wish for anybody and just wait for the draw tomorrow.”
Well, as luck would have it, the Gunners were pitted up against Atletico Madrid in the semi-final draw which was held on Friday afternoon.
It is the first match between the two teams since 2009’s Emirates Cup. The Gunners won 2-1 that day after two very well worked goals from Andrey Arshavin but will face a tougher test in a few weeks.
It’s a tough draw but Arsenal fans will enter it with more than a little confidence. The Gunners have been in far better form than Atletico Madrid in recent weeks and will no doubt fancy their chances at scoring some goals, especially in the home leg.
