Liverpool will not look to sign Marouane Fellaini on a free transfer from Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
The Belgian, who is all but guaranteed to leave in the summer, has been reduced to just two starts since September in light of constant knee problems.
Fellaini’s contract runs out in June and he has been linked with moves to France, Italy and Turkey, but reports in France on Monday suggested Liverpool were weighing up the possibility of signing him for free.
However, according to the Mail Online‘s Simon Jones, Jurgen Klopp will not pursue the 30-year-old midfielder.
Fellaini has failed to reach an agreement with United over a new contract, rejecting terms proposed in September as his representatives look to strike a three year deal. Besiktas, Galatasaray, Roma, Lazio, AS Monaco and Paris Saint Germain are all said to be interested in signing the midfielder for free.
The idea of Liverpool signing him, however, is remarkably far fetched. Phil Chisnall was the last player to be transferred between Man United and Liverpool all the way back in 1964. It is simply not in the DNA of either club to do business with each other, nor in Klopp’s tactical remit to want Fellaini.
