Manchester United board begin to question whether Mourinho is the right man

Some senior figures within Manchester United’s board are questioning the suitability of manager Jose Mourinho for the role at the club.

The Portuguese boss has seemingly lost the trust of a number of fans, pundits, and potentially even board members at Man United, after a woeful 2-1 defeat to Sevilla saw the Reds crash out of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

Mourinho’s tactics and approach to the game was wrong, and ill-fitting with United as a club. The Mail suggest that some senior figures are uncomfortable with Mourinho’s methods on and off the pitch, given the lethargic and dull performances on and the controversial, and sometimes senseless, statements off it.

Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward, the man in charge, though, is said to remain supportive of Mourinho.

The Mail quote one United source as saying, “Jose is not the manager we thought he was. We are worried. We know the fans hate the football, and we won’t win the league for three or four years. He’s also too insecure and gets involved in things away from the football.”

There were always fears about Mourinho, and there are certain negatives to his style of management. He is no currently getting the best out of his players. But clear progress has been made. United of this season are far better than last, and the three campaigns before that. Denying that fact would be delusional.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain will be ready to swoop for Mourinho if disagreement begins to build between manager and board, according to The Mirror.

They also claim that the United board are convinced that, having spent £300m, Mourinho should currently have taken the side further than where they are. Due to that belief, the board are reportedly unwilling to grant him such a huge transfer chest again.
