Manchester United loanee Sam Johnstone has received full backing from England international Jack Butland who called him a real Premier League talent.
The academy product is out on loan with Aston Villa currently and has impressed so far with the club keen on holding onto him beyond the current season.
Johnstone has been a part of United for a long time now but has never really established himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper.
He hasn’t necessarily been given the opportunity to, especially due to the club’s need to find a ready made goalkeeping talent.
David de Gea is the club’s current first choice and with an Argentina international as his back up in Sergio Romero, Sam is unlikely to get any game time next season despite Butland’s high praise.
According to This Is Futbol, Jack said to the Birmingham Mail: “Defensively, they [Aston Villa] have been excellent this season and a lot of that is down to Sam [Johnstone]. He is a real talent, they certainly have a Premier League keeper and that is a big thing for them.
“It is great to see him playing consistently. He has found a home and a club that cares for him, which is so important.”
Sam Johnstone can still certainly make a career for himself as previous Red Devils’ academy graduates have done throughout the Premier League and the Championship.
The club boast a high level of successful talents, even the ones who don’t make it at Old Trafford generally experience top careers elsewhere.
Should Aston Villa get promoted back to the Premier League and they manage to transform Johnstone’s loan into an actual transfer, then he can still experience playing in England’s top division.
He will be at a club that backs him with a manager that has faith in him since Jose Mourinho appears to prefer Joel Pereira as Manchester United’s third choice keeper.
