Ainsley Maitland-Niles has credited Arsene Wenger for his breakthrough season (via Sky Sports).
Despite the numerous problems Arsenal are having on the pitch, it has been a good season for one young player.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles has enjoyed a hugely successful breakout season with impressive performances in both the Europa League and the Premier League.
Now, the 20-year-old has revealed that Arsene Wenger is the main reason behind his rise to the first team.
“I owe him a lot for believing in me and telling me I need to work on stuff before he has put me out there,” Maitland-Niles told Sky Sports.
“He’s a very trusting person. He has a lot of belief in his players and whenever you want to talk to him about something his door’s always open – you can always walk in.
“You could talk to him about anything. He’s such a loving guy, he treats every player as family.
“It depends how open you are as well to go and speak to him. It’s almost like he can be your dad, but he’s your coach at the same time, so he’s giving you that push in both areas.”
However people fall on the Wenger in/out debate, there is no doubting Wenger’s qualities as a person and a man manager. Very few former Arsenal players have bad things to say about Arsene Wenger and it seems that Ainsley Maitland-Niles is the latest in the long line.
