Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s 18-month spell at Manchester United could be in its final days, with a move to LA Galaxy very much on the cards.
The Swede returned from a serious knee ligament operation in late November and featured seven times before being ruled out of action once again. He’s set to be back in full Man United training this week, but has struggled to recover fully.
He came close to moving to Major League Soccer before and after his injury, and ESPN now suggest that LA Galaxy are now confident of signing Ibrahimovic from United.
A deal is now reportedly “the furthest along it has ever been.” United manager Jose Mourinho has previously insisted that “nobody is leaving and nobody is coming” in the transfer window at Old Trafford.
That was, of course, after the Portuguese was delighted to announce the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in a straight player-swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Chilean forward’s arrival will impact on Ibrahimovic. The 36-year-old would have struggled for as many games as last season, when he scored a superb 28 goals, due to the presence of Romelu Lukaku, signed for £75m from Everton in the summer.
However, Sanchez joining the Reds limits the chances of Ibrahimovic playing even further and United, though they would like to have Ibrahimovic as an option, would likely be more willing to let the talisman leave the club if he wished.
