According to Metro, Thibaut Courtois is set to become Chelsea’s highest paid player in their history with a new £300,000 a week deal.
The Belgian shot-stopper is set to have his wages more than doubled as he looks set to snub a move to Real Madrid. Chelsea are known for paying their players well during the Roman Abramovich era, but they have been overtaken by Manchester City and Manchester United in recent years with regards to wages.
The 25-year-old has already indicated that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and he could be the highest paid player as a result of agreeing to stay. The Belgian has been linked with Los Blancos in a number of transfer windows as they consider replacing Keylor Navas.
But now, he looks set to also become the highest paid goalkeeper on the planet with his wages more than doubling. Fellow Belgium international and Chelsea teammate Eden Hazard has also been linked with a move to the Spanish giants but it seems the pair are staying put for now.
Courtois takes home around about £120,000 per week if reports are to be believed. Getting Courtois to sign this deal will be crucial to the Blues, with them knowing that Real Madrid are likely to step up their offer in the summer if they fail to reach an agreement.
