Alexis Sanchez has insisted he could not turn down the chance to play for Manchester United.
The Chilean international also spoke of his pride at being set to become Man United’s first ever player from his country.
He signed a four-and-a-half year contract on Monday as Henrikh Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in the January transfer window’s biggest deal, a rare player-swap move between two major clubs.
“I am thrilled to be joining the biggest club in the world,” Sanchez enthused.
“I have spent three-and-a-half wonderful years at Arsenal and I bring with me very positive memories of that great club and its fans.”
Sanchez revealed that United boss Jose Mourinho played a key part in his decision to join the club rather than wait until summer when his contract at the Emirates ran out and he’d be free to join a number of clubs.
“The chance to play in this historic stadium and to work with Jose Mourinho was something I could not turn down,” the 29-year-old told MUTV.
“I am very proud to be the first Chilean player ever to play for United’s first team and I hope I can show our fans all around the world why the club wanted to bring me here.”
