Mourinho: Ronaldo will be part of football forever

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has paid tribute to club icon Cristiano Ronaldo after winning his fifth Ballon d’Or title.

The Portuguese winger was hugely influential during his time at Old Trafford before moving on to Real Madrid where his legend only grew.

United fans still sing the player’s name to this day and are hugely proud of playing a part in the development one of modern football’s brightest talents.

Both Mourinho and Ronaldo worked together during their time at the Spanish capital and despite rumours of their working relationship souring, the Red Devils’ manager praised him for his accomplishments.

The two legends of the game both share Manchester United and Real Madrid in their footballing CVs and a mutual respect for their talents.

Speaking to France Football, Jose said: “My children never saw Pele play, but they know who he [Ronaldo] is. In 40 years their kids will know who Cristiano is, and he will be part of the football story forever.”

Jose Mourinho’s current squad could do with a player like Cristiano, both in terms of ability and the position he plays in.

In fact, Mourinho has been interested in the player’s so called heir in Gareth Bale but rumours have failed to transpire into an actual transfer.

United’s need for a winger has been well advertised and one of the areas that Jose admitted to wanting to invest in during the summer.

The club did well to bring in all of the Portuguese manager’s transfer targets but couldn’t secure a flank-man in the end.

It’s likely that the January transfer window will see the Red Devils once more search for talented wide men and Antoine Griezmann is reportedly the main target.
