Fulham manager Slavisa Jovanovic has admitted that he has no control over the future of Manchester United target Ryan Sessegnon.
The Englishman emerged on Jose Mourinho’s radar last season after breaking into the starting XI aged just 16, making 30 appearances in total before starring for his country at European Under-19 Championship.
Speculation over a potential move was curtailed by Sessegnon signing a professional contract with Fulham in the summer but Man United, along with Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid, reportedly remain interested.
And Jovanovic, when asked about the 17-year-old’s future, noted that he had little control over his future.
“It’s nice for him [to be linked with big clubs] and for the club too,” he said.
“And if you want to say, it’s nice for myself, I must be satisfied because big clubs are interested in our player.
“I wish he is going to stay with me, but it’s not in my control. I believe he’s a clever man, believe the people around him are clever enough, he’s played more than 50 games, he’s 17.
“I know in the past in the last summer there’s been interest around him but he took the decision to stay with us, a fantastic decision in my opinion!”
Sessegnon is just 17 – seventeen years old! – and already has 56 senior appearances under his belt, claiming 12 goals in the process.
He signed a new deal at Craven Cottage over the summer and you can see why. He has plenty of time ahead to improve and doesn’t need to rush to a big club just yet. If anything, that he has chosen regular game time in the Championship over the Premier League shows reflects well on his attitude towards improving himself.
Needless to say, he is someone worth keeping a close eye on.
