Chelsea's summer signing reveals why he rejected Manchester United to join the Blues

In the summer, Chelsea added another highly-rated talent to their academy setup when they brought over striker Daishawn Redan from Ajax on a two-year contract.

Redan is yet to make his professional debut but he’s an established finisher at youth international level having scored 14 goals in 18 games as captain of the Netherlands U17 side.

The 16-year-old attacker has gone straight into the Blues’ U18 side, but it could have been very different as in an interview with Ajax Showtime, Redan confirms he held talks with two other Premier League clubs – Manchester United and West Ham.

So why didn’t Redan join one of the other clubs pursuing him? The striker claims he was very impressed with the facilities at Chelsea and that persuaded him to move to West London.

I visited three clubs: Chelsea, Man. United and West Ham United. At Man. United it was okay, but at Chelsea it was ‘wow’. I was really impressed. I want to develop myself here and become a big, strong and technical striker.

Ajax are well-known for their commitment to youth development and blooding home-grown talent, with defender Matthijs de Ligt the latest prospect to break into the first-team, but Redan believes he can further his development at Chelsea.

The Ajax Academy is incredible. I’ve learned so much there. Everything that formed me as the player I am. I can look back with great feelings, but at Chelsea I can develop myself further to the striker I want to be.

Redan dreams of becoming one of the best strikers in the world and he wants to be playing at a high level within the next three years, with the hope that he can do so at Chelsea.

I want to be one of the best strikers in the world. If I’m working hard for that goal, there are many chances for me to play at a beautiful club at a high level in three years time. I hope that will be Chelsea’s first team, of course.
