Great news for United star making early recovery from bad injury

Dean Henderson could be in line for a speedy recovery after the Manchester United loanee sustained a thigh problem whilst playing for Nottingham Forest.

Earlier reports suggested that the goalkeeper could miss up to six seeks due to a grade two tear in his thigh.

This even prompted Forest to assess their options in the transfer market, with Wayne Henessey failing to impress in Henderson’s stead.

The Midlands club have already made an incredible 24 signings this season, and looked set to add another between the sticks in their bid to stay in the Premier League.

An ambitious move for Keylor Navas of Paris Saint-Germain was suggested, although those plans have now been shelved.

According to The Independent, Henderson could return to action as earlier as February 11th.

That would see the United academy graduate sit out just one more league game.

He would then be able to help his team take on Fulham, another newly promoted side.

Henderson has been a key player at the City Ground, keeping clean sheets in three of his last five outings in the Premier League.

He also performed heroically in Forest’s Carabao Cup tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers, saving two penalties in the shootout.

During the first leg of the semi-final against Man United, Henderson had to be restrained by the Forest dugout after the home side put the ball in the net.

Such an attitude towards his parent club means Henderson is unlikely to play for the Red Devils again, but United fans will be hoping the keeper is fit and firing as soon as possible.

Premier League proven English goalkeepers cost a pretty penny, and Manchester United will surely be hoping Dean Henderson’s sale will significantly add to their summer budget as they continue to rebuild under Erik ten Hag.

United keen on signing 24-yo midfield dynamo labelled the 'next Kante' - report

Manchester United are reportedly interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara.

According to The Independent, Brighton have had a bid rejected by Leipzig for Haidara.

The Seagulls are said to be keen on Haidara in case Moises Caicedo leaves this January.

Caicedo has attracted interest from Chelsea.

Leipzig are reluctant Haidara to sell as they would not be able to find a replacement in such a short span of time.

The report goes on to say:

“The 24-year-old midfielder also has a clause in his contract that he can leave in the summer, and it is anticipated there could be more interest from Champions League clubs in the summer.”

“Meanwhile, Liverpool and Manchester United have looked at Haidara in the past, but any revived interest is only likely to come at the end of the season.”

“The Mali international would be open to a move to Brighton now but respects Leipzig’s decision as they lie second in the Bundesliga, just four points behind Bayern Munich.”

Haidara would be an excellent addition to United’s midfield.

He is quick, tenacious and tailor-made for the Premier League.

It is to be seen whether United move for him, or opt for another option.

Zidane Iqbal’s future takes important turn as Ten Hag makes huge loan decision

Manchester United are working hard to arrange loan deals for some of their academy stars.

Several of the club’s youngsters are in line to leave Old Trafford before deadline day next Tuesday.

United coaches and club chiefs are keen for these players to go out and play significant first-team minutes elsewhere and gain valuable experience.

The Manchester Evening News reports, “Talks are underway over a number of potential exits, with an emphasis on matching players with a club where they will get regular playing time in the second half of the season.”

“Charlie McNeill is one player keen on a loan exit amid interest from both League One and League Two clubs.”

“Those close to McNeill have made it clear that his decision will be based on who can guarantee him meaningful minutes over the final months of the season, rather than the level they are at.”

Beyond McNeill, United also want defensive duo Di’Shon Bernard and Bjorn Hardley to leave the club on loan before the winter transfer window shuts on Tuesday.

The club is adamant that they have no interest in loaning out Bernard and Hardley to join teams where they are not guaranteed to play regularly.

One academy player who is likely to stay despite there being massive interest in his services is Zidane Iqbal.

Richard Fay relays that Iqbal is now seen as a senior squad member and a player Erik ten Hag can rely on when the need arises.

Ten Hag is reluctant to let Iqbal leave and be left with an even thinner squad.

There is a belief that the Iraqi will play a role in the first team over the coming weeks.

Video: United star up for goal of the month with this spectacular strike

Marcus Rashford‘s sublime goal against Arsenal has been nominated for the Premier League’s January Goal of the Month award.

Rashford opened the scoring at the Emirates with the super goal to give United the lead.

The Englishman received a simple pass from Bruno Fernandes before chopping Thomas Partey with a wonderful piece of skill.

Rashford then put his right foot through the ball and sent a ferocious shot into the back of the Arsenal net beyond the reach of a diving Aaron Ramsdale.

Rashford will face competition to clinch the award from some of the Premier League’s other in-form stars, including Bukayo Saka, who also scored in the same match as Rashford.

Alongside Rashford and Saka, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Brighton trio Kaoru Mitoma, Danny Welbeck and Solly March were also nominated.

Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise is also in contention after his magnificent last-minute free-kick effort against United at Selhurst Park.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ forward Daniel Podence rounds off the list.

Rashford was also nominated for the Premier League’s January Player of the Month accolade.

These recognitions are a vindication of the fruitful spell the 25-year-old has experienced. The winger was again on target yesterday night as his side beat Forest by three goals to nil.

Rashford came up with another inspired moment to give the Red Devils the lead at the City Ground.

Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Rashford after the win against Nottingham Forest. He said, “He [Rashford] is actually unstoppable when he’s in this mood, this spirit and focus.”

United in three-way tussle for storming Serie A star - report

Denzel Dumfries’ agent is in England for discussions over move to the Premier League for her client, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle United all in the frame.

The Inter Milan wingback is, according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, keen on a move to England’s top division.

While a move during the winter window is deemed unlikely, it is thought that the Netherlands star would be available in the summer.

Chelsea are thought to be in the advanced stages of their negotiations for Lyon fullback Malo Gusto, although as reported by The Peoples Person, United are looking to convince the player to wait until the summer, when they will be able to make their move.

A situation might arise whereby the loser of that race ends up in a battle with Newcastle for Dumfries.

The Serie A star is said to be valued at around €50m by his club, although that seems to be a laughable figure given the player’s lacklustre performances for Inter this season.

He began the campaign in mixed form before heading out to Qatar with the Dutch National Team.

There, he put in a few very suspect performances and one great one against the USA, where he provided two assists and got himself onto the scoresheet.

He returned to Milan unfit and has barely featured since, coinciding with the Nerazzuri’s best form of the season.

There are a number of ways in which Dumfries can be effective: he is quick, strong, and good in the air.

But he is also poor on the ball, unable to dribble or pass with any sort of consistency.

If Ten Hag was looking to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a similar type of player, Dumfries would probably make a lot of sense.

As it is, the speculation over Wan-Bissaka’s future is largely a result of the former Crystal Palace man’s perceived weaknesses in possession.

Given all of that, it would be a surprise to see Manchester United pursue Denzel Dumfries, particularly at that price point.

United suffer blow as Spanish giants line up bid for Bundesliga star - report

Manchester United successfully saw off a tricky Nottingham Forest side in their first semi-final leg of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, with new January loan signing, Wout Weghorst, finding the net in a United shirt for the first time.

The 20-time PL champions have adapted quickly to life under new manager Erik ten Hag and are actively in the hunt for four trophies, despite recent setbacks against Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils found themselves desperately lacking reinforcements in the attacking department during these disappointments, as Ten Hag was forced to rely upon the youthful exuberance of Alejandro Garnacho to create any meaningful impact off the bench in attack.

Given Jadon Sancho’s absence from first team proceedings, and Antony’s lack of form, United have often had to bank on Marcus Rashford’s incredible run of goalscoring to get them through some sticky situations.

The Red Devils are unlikely to add to their squad at the moment, with a sale looming over the horizon, but plans for the summer have begun in earnest, with the club scouting profusely across various leagues in multiple countries.

A number of names have been linked as United look to solve their attacking woes, but it seems one of their more coveted targets might well be on his way to Spain.

Real Madrid have supposedly entered the race for Dani Olmo, that is according to Defensacentral, who claim Los Blancos have marked the 24-year-old out as a key man for the future.

The versatile forward has been in sparkling form for RB Leipzig this season, with two goals and four assists to his name in his twelve Bundesliga appearances.

Olmo was a graduate of the famed La Masia academy, Barcelona’s prized production line which continues to churn out the goods for Real’s archrivals with great fervour.

The current Spanish International finished top scorer in four of his six seasons at the “Farmhouse”, but would opt against continuing with the Blaugrana, in an attempt to accrue more playing time.

He eventually signed with Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb in 2014, raising many eyebrows at the time, but it would prove to be a shrewd decision by both club and player.

Aged just 16, Olmo would make his debut for Dinamo and in the blink of an eye, the teenager cemented his place in the first team.

He greatly contributed to five title winning sides, playing in a variety of positions, earning envious glances from Europe’s elite.

Soon enough, RB Leipzig and Julian Nagelsmann came calling, and Olmo would make the substantial jump to the German top flight in January of 2020.

Once more, he thrived, and his performances since, for club and internationally for Spain, have made him a constant source of interest in the gossip columns.

Olmo’s contract runs out in 2024, and Leipzig will be aware that holding on to him will be difficult, with bigger and better prospects on the horizon.

A price of around 60 million euros has been bandied out, and it is unlikely to be much of a stumbling block for clubs the size of Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The Glazers’ unwillingness to spend this window is bound to have ramifications on how well United can perform this term, but come summer, with the possibility of a new ownership in the works, United will be actively on the hunt to fill the gaping holes in their squad.

The Red Devils will be aware that tempting a Spanish player out of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu will be a task and a half, but stranger things have happened.

'False dawns' could be a thing of the past for United - The Athletic

Carla Anka believes that the signs are positive for Erik ten Hag’s first season in English football, so positive that Manchester United might just be back.

Writing for The Athletic, the journalist accepts that there have been many ‘false dawns’ since Sira Alex Ferguson’s retirement.

Indeed, United have had good runs of form under previous managers, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer enjoying a fantastic sequence during the 2020/21 season.

But alas, as with other good sequences, the dysfunction that has enshrouded Old Trafford put paid to that run of results.

And while Anka believes that there will be no single defining moment at which one might declare “United came back,” he also notes that there is plenty of reason to be positive about the Red Devils right now.

Marcus Rashford’s sensational form, which has seen him score ten goals in as many matches, stands chief among them.

Improvements in midfield and in United’s structure in possession are also noted, and while there are still issues that need to be addressed, the early signs are good.

Some of those issues were prevalent in yesterday’s Carabao Cup tie, with some cheap turnovers leading to some dangerous counterattacks from Nottingham Forest – one of which had the ball in the back of the net – when United were a little too quick to push players forward.

But an ultimately controlled display saw the Red Devils emerge with a clean sheet, with Lisandro Martinez doing well to cover ground and Victor Lindelof noticeably improving in the second half.

United are still in the process of a rebuild, one that has already seen an outlay upward of £200m, and one that may still only be halfway to completion.

But by taking a huge step towards Wembley last night, Erik ten Hag has taken steps towards further cementing faith in his work.

As Anka writes, “They have been here before, and their fans have been burned by the fires of false dawns. But maybe, just maybe, things are different under Ten Hag.”

"That's what great players do" - Roy Keane hails summer signing's impact

Roy Keane has hailed the impact of Casemiro, since his arrival from Real Madrid in the summer.

As reported in the Daily Mail, Keane feels the Brazilian has quickly become one of the first names on Erik ten Hag’s team sheet.

The former United captain knows all about playing the Casemiro role, having played 480 times in a trophy-laden career at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Sky Sports before United’s Carabao Cup semi final, Keane praised Casemiro’s attitude and says he presence on the pitch is getting the best out of his teammates

“He’s a big personality, he’s won the big trophies before. Big strong boy, big personality – he makes the players around him better, that’s what great players do.” he said

Keane went on to say he feels the absence of Casemiro makes the team significantly weaker, highlighted in the weekends defeat at The Emirates, underlining his importance to the team

“He’s a huge player for them. We obviously saw at the weekend when he wasn’t playing (how he was missed). Sometimes you realise how good a player he is when he’s not in the team.” he said

Casemiro’s quality on the ball and ability to affect games, has also impressed Keane.

“He affects games, is obviously very good defensively and pretty good on the ball, let me tell you… He’s very good at making passes and he’s got a few goals, which is a huge bonus” he said.

Keane’s sentiments are widely echoed by United fans who have taken the Brazilian to their hearts since his arrival.

Casemiro’s level of performance has highlighted just how much United have missed a player of that quality in the middle of the park, since the retirement of Keane’s replacement, Michael Carrick.

Ten Hag is well aware of the importance of the former Real Madrid man, who will play a key role in any success United are to have this season.

United are still fighting on four fronts and have one foot in the Carabao Cup final, after sweeping Nottingham Forest aside in the first leg of the semi last night, taking a 3 goal lead to Old Trafford next Wednesday.

Rashford and Weghorst excel, but this usual hero was a zero against Forest

Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 this evening in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi final. Here are our player ratings for the game:

(A score of 6 is around average.)

David de Gea 5.5 – Good save in the first half but poor distribution added unnecessary pressure.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 5.5 – After some really promising games, the old failings are getting set in again. Always drifting out of position, switching off and taking ages to get back. Did play better in the second half, perhaps Erik had a word at half time.

Victor Lindelof 7 – Was exposed a couple of times in the first half and wasn’t able to recover. Much, much better in the second.

Lisandro Martinez 6 – Not vintage Lisandro, but OK.

Tyrell Malacia 8 – Defended very well. Ventured forward a few times and starting to master the underlap. Storming second half performance.

Christian Eriksen 7 – Kept things ticking nicely. Lovely shot that was unlucky to hit the woodwork.

Casemiro 4.5 – Poor outing from the Brazilian, although he was involved in the build-up to the second goal. Pickpocketed embarrassingly on the hour. Some shocking passing.

Antony 6.5 – Better than recent performances without quite hitting the high notes. Excellent assist for Weghorst goal and a couple of good efforts himself. Still has a tendency to slow down attacks by not releasing the ball quickly enough.

Bruno Fernandes 7 – Involved in everything, infuriating at times, brilliant at others. The goal won us over in the end.

Marcus Rashford 8 – Unstoppable and world class at the moment.

Wout Weghost 8 – Worked hard, did his job well and scored a good goal.

Substitutes

Alejandro Garnacho 6 – Nothing really came off for him today.

Fred 6 – Didn’t notice him much.

Facundo Pellistri 6 – Mixed 20 minutes. Put in a nice cross and nearly scored, but lost possession in a dangerous area and gave away a dangerous free kick.

Anthony Elanga 7 – Got a lovely assist for Bruno’s goal. Hopefully that will lift his form.

Erik ten Hag has picked a strong starting XI for tonight’s Carabao Cup semi final against Notts Forest but Raphael Varane misses out, with Victor Lindelof replacing him.

Varane, along with Luke Shaw, is either rested or benched for precautionary reasons. Varane is named on the bench. Shaw is rested.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues at right back during Diogo Dalot’s absence. David de Gea is in goal.

Further up the pitch, the team looks more familiar, with Eriksen and Casemiro in defensive midfield, Bruno Fernandes in attacking midfield and Marcus Rashford and Antony on the wings.

Antony will be looking to impress after a couple of lacklustre performances which have been acknowledged by Ten Hag in the pre-match presser.

Wout Weghorst gets his third consecutive start up front in Antony Martial’s absence.

Joining Varane on the bench are Tom Heaton, Brandon Williams, Fred, Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri.

There is no place in the squad for Harry Maguire, who is suspended.

Jadon Sancho still does not feature despite being back in full first team training.

It’s uncertain why Heaton continues to deputise for De Gea when Jack Butland has joined on loan from Crystal Palace.

United want to sign this €100m right winger amid Antony struggles - report

Manchester United could be set to hijack Aston Villa’s move for Real Betis star Luiz Henrique.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils, along with Arsenal and Aston Villa, are keeping a keen eye on the Brazilian winger.

The left-footed attacker only joined Betis from Fluminense in the summer but has taken to European football like a duck to water.

He has put in spectacular displays against the likes of FC Barcelona and Osasuna, impressing in high pressure knockout matches in the Super Cup and Copa del Rey respectively.

Henrique currently has a release clause of around €100m, however Betis are thought to be willing to part with the player for less than that sum in the summer, having only paid €8m rising to €13m for his services.

There is more than a little déjà vu for United fans here, with midfield target Enzo Fernandez having been signed by Benfica for a similar price and, after an incredibly short turnaround, seeing his value skyrocket.

It is unknown whether the Red Devils were following Henrique during his time in South America, although they most certainly were looking to acquire a certain Brazilian left-footed right winger.

Antony signed for the club late in the window for around €100m, with his performances receiving mixed responses during his short time at Old Trafford.

While he is United’s second joint top goalscorer this season, critics have argued that his lack of directness has hampered his team’s ability to create high-quality chances.

Whether or not the former Ajax star comes good, Henrique would make a certain amount of sense for Erik ten Hag.

The manager clearly like this type of player, preferring a left-footer on the right side of his attack. Like Antony, Henrique is a silky dribbler and relentless presser, which could potentially allow the two to rotate effectively.

However, it is highly unlikely that United would do business at anywhere near Luiz Henrique’s release clause, having spent huge fees on right wingers two summers running.

Should that price come down – and down by rather a lot – this could be one to watch for the summer.

"Electric" United record holder impress on loan debut

Bolton Wanderers boss, Ian Evett, has praised Shola Shoretire‘s impact on his debut, after joining the club on loan until the end of the season.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News, Shoretire completed just over 70 mins on his first appearance for The Trotters.

The 18 year-old played his part in Bolton’s hard fought 1-0 win over Forest Green last night, impressing his new manager.

“That’s a full debut that he will remember. I’ve got to say the first 20, 25 minutes, some of the things he did was electric. The way he turned with the ball, some of his passes, some of his dribbling.” Evatt said after the game.

It wasn’t just Shoretire’s ability on the ball that impressed Evatt, with the Bolton boss also praising his work when his side didn’t have possession.

“But what was even more pleasing for us was the way he bought into the out-of-possession stuff. He was patient and waited for pressing triggers. He bought into that superbly well and I’m proud of him.” he said.

Evatt was left in no doubt that Shoretire will prove to be a great addition to his group and aid the club’s promotion push.

“You can see what he’s going to bring to us. We haven’t had a player like that yet and he’s going to be a really, really good player for us.” he said.

It is not the first time Evatt has been full of praise for Shoretire, hailing the youngster as a “360 degree player” after his cameo against Derby County at the weekend.

Bolton are currently well placed in League One, sitting nicely in the playoffs but eleven points away from Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the automatic promotion spots, along with Plymouth.

If Shoretire could help fire The Trotter’s into the Championship, he would certainly catch Erik ten Hag’s eye.

The United boss is light in his options at centre-forward at present and Shoretire will be hoping to force his way into the Dutchman’s plans in the coming years.

Shoretire has made five first team appearances for United and holds the record for the youngest player to play for the club in European competition.

Sky Sports make hilariously embarrassing blunder over United star

The body double barely looked 6ft.

Weghorst also favours Adidas when it comes to his choice of boots. On the other hand, the body double was sporting a pair of Nikes.

The blunder left United officials bewildered as they had provided all the necessary assets for Sky in advance.

In response to the revelation, Sky says that the imagery needs to be captured by themselves. Evidently, time did not allow it.

Sky Sports refused to disclose whose body they used. Given the glaring height difference, some joked that it could have been Juan Mata.

Once bitten, twice shy

The Weghorst-double returned before the Red Devils’ Arsenal defeat.

All eyes will be watching to see whether United can bounce back from their Gunners defeat when they face Nottingham in the Carabao Cup.

Many more will be waiting to see if the Weghorst impersonator makes another appearance.

Manchester United target Martin Zubimendi prefers a transfer to the Premier League if he decides to move on from Real Sociedad this season.

Towards the end of last year, The Peoples Person reported that the club was interested in the midfielder.

Many clubs around Europe soon became interested in him, including teams from Italy, France, and Germany.

However, MundoDeportivo, a Spanish outlet, are reporting that the La Liga star prefers a move to England to play in the Premier League.

It was recently reported that Arsenal were showing an interest in Zubimendi but he rejected the contract for now as he wants to complete the season with his current club.

He has a release clause inserted into his contract at 60 million euros (£52m).

The defensive midfielder, who is only 23 years old, has been in fine form for Real Sociedad this season.

His side are currently in third place and are in a good place to finish inside the top four for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Zubimendi would be a great fit for Man United and would suit Erik ten Hag’s current set up.

Casemiro is the most important defensive midfielder the club currently has, with Scott McTominay proving to be an unconvincing backup.

Zubimendi has the quality to push into the starting eleven and could well push into the defensive midfield role with the qualities he has.

A top four finish for Zubimendi might make United’s pursuit a little challenging, but Ten Hag will be hoping he has enough resources to convince sign the Spaniard.

With The Red Devils also in a comfortable position to finish inside the top four, Champions League qualification could be enough to see Zubimnedi join the club next season.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United are paying close attention to Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos.

The Portugal star caught the eye during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, becoming the youngest player since Pele to score a hattrick in the finals.

He has also enjoyed a fantastic campaign for his club, notching twelve goals in 15 appearances in the league.

And, while Romano has reiterated that United are unlikely to spend big this window, he includes him among the shortlist of players the club are considering to reinforce their forward line in the summer.

“As I always say, for Osimhen, Kane, Ramos… we have to wait for the summer. Nothing will happen now,” the reliable reporter said on his Daily Briefing.

“Manchester United are monitoring many strikers but nothing is concrete or advanced now; they sent their scouts to UCL games for Ramos, but at the moment there’s nothing else.”

While Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane have been floated as top targets elsewhere, detracting factors could make either of those players difficult to attain.

In Osimhen’s case, reports of a €140m asking price would likely put the Nigerian out of United’s reach even with serious investment.

Kane, meanwhile, has been reported as being open to staying at Tottenham Hotspur, even as his contract situation becomes more perilous for his club.

Ramos could provide a good alternative and is known to be a player admired by Erik ten Hag.

Energetic and hardworking, the Portuguese forward would be an ideal fit for the pressing game the manager is looking to impose at United.

He also provides an aerial threat, something evidently important to Ten Hag going by his acquisition of Wout Weghorst as a stop gap for the remainder of the current season.

Glazers make astonishing threat that will infuriate United fans

The Glazers would rather stay in control of Manchester United Football Club than take a penny less than £6bn.

That is according to The Daily Mail, who claim that the Tampa Bay family are dead set on smashing the world record for a club sale.

Chelsea’s acquisition by Todd Boehly and his consortium is currently the most expensive takeover to have occurred in football history.

Roman Abramovic’s sale of the Blues was valued at £2.5bn, with the buyers also committing a further £1.75bn towards investment into the club.

As reported by The Peoples Person yesterday, the Glazers have aspiration of getting over £8bn for United.

That is a valuation quite some way past the borders of the ridiculous, and would almost certainly rule out just bout every potential buyer on the planet short of a sovereign wealth fund.

Given such groups have never bid anywhere near that mark before, it could well rule them out too.

A bottom-line asking price of £6bn could be more palatable for would-be buyers, although even that price exceeds even the most generous valuations of financial experts.

In May 2022, Forbes placed United’s worth at $4.6bn (£3.73bn), while sports finance expert Kieran Maguire had this to say:

“If you compare the relative size of the profitability and revenue generated at Manchester United to Chelsea, I think a figure between £4 billion [$4.8 billion] and £4.5 billion [$5.4 billion] is appropriate, and if there’s a lot of interest that will drive up the price.”

While Maguire also said that £5bn was “not impossible,” he added that such a figure would very much be “the top end.”

The Glazer stance is therefore a troubling one for United fans, who have suffered under their ownership for 17 long years, during which the club has fallen behind its greatest rivals in terms of both infrastructure and on-pitch success.

In essence, the current ownership are threatening to extend their tenure unless someone offers them a £2.3bn markup on Forbes’ most recent valuation.

The hope, of course, will be that all of this is simply posturing. Even if the Glazers do end up getting their money, whoever gives it to them will need to be left with the resources necessary to turn United’s fortunes around.

Return to Old Trafford: the perfect occasion for exciting new United recruit

Manchester United Women will play at Old Trafford for the second time this season as they take on West Ham United at the Theatre of Dreams in March.

The match is scheduled to take place on March 25th at 12.30pm and will mark the first women’s match to be held there in 2023.

Last time out, United thrashed Aston Villa 5-0 at Old Trafford in the WSL, the final of three womens’ games held at Old Trafford in 2022 following United’s game against Everton and the Lionesses opening game in the Euros.

More than 100,000 fans were in attendance across those three games last year and another big crowd will be expected in March, as fans continue to break attendance records at Leigh Sports Village.

United’s last home game against Liverpool set another attendance record at LSV as 7,666 people turned out as the Reds thrashed their rivals.

Marc Skinner’s team have made a great start to this WSL campaign and currently sit top of the table at the halfway stage after Rachel Williams’s 87th-minute winner secured all three points away against Reading at the weekend.

Speaking of his team’s return to Old Trafford, Skinner said, “Our entire group of players and staff are extremely excited to perform in front of our incredible fans at Old Trafford, for the second time this season.”

He continued, “As the women’s game continues to grow, we are delighted that this great football club remains at the heart of it and offer another wonderful opportunity for fans – both old and new – to experience a Manchester United Women’s game on the biggest stage.”

Polly Bancroft, head of women’s football, added: “This will be another great occasion for Manchester United Women, and a wonderful opportunity for our amazing fans to set another Old Trafford attendance record, for the third time in succession.”

“We cannot wait to see everyone cheering us on at the Theatre of Dreams, in another fine spectacle for the women’s game,” she concluded.

New signings Jayde Riviere and Estelle Cascarino who are yet to make an appearance for the club could make their Old Trafford debut.

Canadian defender, Riviere was raised a Red so it will surely be an occasion our new recruit will treasure and thrive in.

She is coming back to full fitness following an injury so may be rested by Skinner over the next few weeks but everyone will be hoping she will be fully fit for the clash against the Hammers.

Huge boost for United's Champions League hopes as Naalsund signs three year deal

Manchester United have completed the signing of Norwegian international Lisa Naalsund.

The 27 year old midfielder has joined the club from SK Brann on a contract running until the end of the 2025/26 season.

She spent four seasons with the Toppserien side, winning two league titles in the process.

Naalsund made her full Norway debut in 2021, when she replaced her now Reds team-mate Vilde Boe Risa against Sweden, having represented her country at every age group from Under-15.

Upon joining the club Naalsund said to the club’s official website, ““Manchester United is a great football club and I’m very excited to be here. The club is full of nice people and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the amazing fans.”

She continued, “It’s great to come to a club that has everything to play for this season – I love that. It’s going to be great!”

Just a few weeks ago the deal looked in jeopardy as Naalsund told Norwegian press she was concerned about game time with the Reds and this doubt was the only thing preventing the move.

After getting the deal over the line manager Marc Skinner said, “We’re excited to welcome Lisa to Manchester United, where she will bring a wealth of top-level experience, playing in the heart of midfield.”

He added, “Her mentality, box-to-box driving runs and desire to win will continue to add a variance of skill and quality to the team. We look forward to integrating her into our group.”

Meanwhile, head of women’s football, Polly Bancroft said, “We are delighted to welcome a proven winner in Lisa to our group.”

“Securing her signature further cements the club’s ambition to finish as high up the WSL table as possible and take that next step we all desire,” she continued.

Naalsund is the third player the Reds have brought in during this transfer window following the signing of French midfielder Estelle Cascarino and Canadian defender Jayde Riviere.

UEFA put a stop to Chelsea mischief, but it may come too late for United - report

Chelsea’s efforts to buy Manchester United targets Enzo Fernandez, Declan Rice, Moises Caicedo and Malo Gusto could be made more difficult as Uefa are closing a loophole to their Financial Fair Play rules that the Blues have been exploiting.

The recent signing of Mykhaylo Mudryk was spread over an 8½ year contract, Benoit Badiashile over 7½ years, Wesley Fofana 7 years and David Datro Fofana 6½-years.

FIFA regulations state player contracts should be a maximum of five years unless longer is allowed by the laws of the particular country – of which the UK is one.

But Uefa are now putting a five year limit on the length of time over which a player’s transfer fee can be spread.

Also, according to The Times, “From this month, Uefa has introduced a new element called ‘squad cost control’, where clubs will be limited to spending 70 per cent of their revenue in a calendar year on player wages, transfers and agents’ fees.

“Any income from selling players will allow clubs to spend more but transfer income will be averaged out over the previous six years.

“Uefa is easing the new limit in — with 90 per cent of the limit for this calendar year, 80 per cent for 2024 and 70 per cent from 2025.”
The rulings should be welcomed at Old Trafford and could put paid to some of Todd Boehly’s shenanigans at Chelsea.

However, as the five-year rule will only apply from the summer, signings Chelsea make in this window will still be allowed to be spread over a longer period.

Financial Fair Play in general has been United’s friend due to the club’s massive support and fanbase around the world.

The greater revenue the club can generate means that it seldom falls foul of FFP, although to date, rivals such as Barcelona, PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City have constantly found loopholes to avoid the rules anyway.

This particular one will now be closed, although potentially not before Chelsea hit the €500 million mark for incoming transfers this season.

"360-degree" United starlet will be red hot in no time, says manager

Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has heaped praise on Manchester United loan star Shola Shoretire.

Evatt was already full of praise shortly after the United academy graduate’s move was confirmed, crediting his game intelligence and attitude.

And he was at again after a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Derby County in the EFL League One, during which Shoretire showed some glimpses of what he can offer.

Evatt believes it is only a matter of time before the playmaker becomes a key player for Bolton as they push for promotion into the Championship.

“We have never really had an out-and-out attacking number 10 who can receive the ball in such tight areas, be on the half turn, who we could trust enough to receive when he is opposed,” Evatt told The Bolton News.

“Provided we pass with detail, safe side away from the markers, we can give him the ball and he can be reliable, he can create for us. That will come with time, but I saw glimpses of it on Saturday.

“We haven’t had anyone I’d deem as a 360-degree player. Kieran Lee can be, but he is not an out-and-out number 10, he is an eight, really, but he can play 10 because of his intelligence.

“Shola brings a dynamic change of speed; he can get away from markers. He can dribble and beat players and when you come up against – as we did on Saturday – a man-for-man press, then you need people who can dribble and beat a man.”

Shoretire is clearly a player Evatt is a huge fan of, and that certainly bodes well for the youngster’s development as he enjoys first team football for the remainder of the season.

While his Bolton debut came from the bench, it will be no time before he is front and centre of his team’s promotion push.

After that, he will be keen to show Erik ten Hag what he can bring to Manchester United.

The manager has already shown a willingness to place trust in young players this season, handing debuts to Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Shole Shoretire certainly possesses many of the qualities Ten Hag looks for in his attackers.
